FEMA X SUSS: FOOD SECURITY PRACTICES.

SUSS visit to the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA), IPB University

[Bogor, December 5 2025] – The second day of the Interdisciplinary Global Learning Program between Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) and IPB University once again provided an educational and inspiring experience for SUSS students. On this day, participants had the opportunity to explore various academic, research, and agricultural innovation facilities at IPB University.

The activity began with a visit to the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA), IPB University. SUSS students were warmly welcomed by Dr. Ir. Siti Amanah, M.Sc, a representative of FEMA IPB, and Indri Hapsari Fitriyani, S.P., M.Si, a representative of the Directorate of International Education, IPB University. In her remarks, Dr. Siti Amanah expressed her hope that this collaboration would provide new insights into food systems and sustainability.

The program continued with a guest lecture delivered by Dr. Ir. Rr. Melani Abdulkadir, M.Sc from the Department of Communication Sciences and Community Development (SKPM), FEMA IPB. Entitled “Human Ecology, Agroecology, and (Indonesia’s) Agroecosystems”, the lecture invited participants to understand the interrelationship between humans, the environment, and food security challenges in the era of climate change.

Following the lecture session, participants joined a campus tour to gain a deeper understanding of the academic environment at IPB University. The visit also included the IPB Museum, which showcases the history of IPB’s development as a leading agricultural institution, along with various technological innovations that have contributed to Indonesia’s agricultural sector.

Following the lecture session, participants joined a campus tour to gain a deeper understanding of the academic environment at IPB University. The visit also included the IPB Museum, which showcases the history of IPB’s development as a leading agricultural institution, along with various technological innovations that have contributed to Indonesia’s agricultural sector.

The visit then continued to the IPB Agro Techno Park (ATP), where students observed firsthand various applied agricultural technologies developed by IPB University to enhance productivity and support modern agriculture.

Campus Tour

The final destination was the Indonesian Center for Biodiversity and Biotechnology (ICBB). Students received a mini lecture from Mr. Hadi, General Manager of ICBB, entitled “The Role of ICBB in Community Seed Banks in Food Security and Climate Change Resilience.” The session was followed by an interactive question-and-answer discussion, providing deeper insight into the importance of genetic resource conservation in addressing climate change challenges. The visit concluded with a laboratory tour showcasing biotechnology research and innovation processes.

Through this series of activities, SUSS students are expected to broaden their understanding of agri-food systems, environmental sustainability, and Indonesian culture. The program also strengthens the collaborative relationship between the Singapore University of Social Sciences and IPB University toward more inclusive and mutually empowering global education.
